Kimmo Pasanen is a Finnish-born painter who lives and works in Paris, France. He began studying art at the University of Helsinki but upon receiving his Master's degree in Philosophy left for Latin America and a job in development cooperation. Seven years and a detour in Africa later Pasanen moved to Paris to continue his studies in painting. After an interlude of a few years in Finland attending the Finnish Academy of Fine Art he returned to France. In parallel with his artistic activities Pasanen studied the philosophy of art, completing a doctorate at Sorbonne University. He has held various teaching positions in Paris and Helsinki lecturing on the philosophy of art and art history, and was Director of the Finnish Cultural Institute in Paris for three years. Pasanen has shown his work in personal and group shows in France and Finland, and continues his research in the philosophy of art. He has published articles in a variety of scholarly reviews and has presented papers at international colloquiums. Portions of his work appear in a book on the history and ideas of abstract art titled Musta neliö. Abstraktin taiteen salat, i.e. The Black Square, The Secrets of Abstract Art (Taide, Helsinki, 2004). He has published in June 2008 his second book, Tyhjyys itämaisessa ajattelussa ja taiteessa, Teos, Helsinki 2008 (Emptiness in oriental Thought and Art) Kimmo Pasanen teaches painting and drawing in small groups in his studio.
